The ProStart uses GPS to provide startline information – distance to line and countdown and has buttons for pinging the start boat and pin.

Once you’ve pinged both ends of the line, the ProStart uses the latest WAAS-augmented GPS technology to spit out an accurate distance to line measurement twice a second.

Ten seconds after your start, the ProStart automatically switches to showing your GPS speed (SOG) and heading (COG) and also shows a lift/header indicator. In addition to providing you real-time, on-the-water data, the ProStart constantly records your speed, heading and position to keep a running log of your most recent 30 hours of sailing. Once you get back to shore you can download this data to your Mac or PC and create race replay animations.

    Pros: Clear display. Dedicated buttons

Cons: Buttons around the sides are hard to differentiate.  Expensive. Display only orientated in one direction which may make it hard to read if mounted on the mast and you’re hiking from the amas. Design is aimed at installation in a bulkhead as it’s easy to catch ropes at the sides. Expensive at $600.
