The ACT Multi-hull Champs are conducted by the YMCA SC on the weekend 19-20 Oct 13.

Thanks to all the Weta-ista’s who attended the Jervis Bay regatta. Great to meet you all and get some time on the boat. Almost the star of the show (not the fat guy in the front) was Glenn’s trailer! Look forward to seeing it with the bar, disco ball and stripper pole installed. I’m sure it will be regatta HQ in the future.
Of course, great pleasure to meet Chris “Weta Rock Star and all round nice guy” Kitchen. Thanks for coming over.

Aye, the seas were mighty and the wind was puffy, but for all that a good day on Lake Burley-Griffen. The wind range was 15-20kts with lulls much lower than that. Typical inland lake conditions at this time of year. It is not so much the actual wind strength but the rapid change in velocity. First lesson, make sure main can be uncleated when sitting on ama! The gust onslaught demands a quick response so not being able to uncleat the main was a real concern.
Unfortunately the lower tie on my gennaker came loose, so I could not furl, and had to retire.
At least I clocked up another hour or so on the boat. With a little luck I won’t be a complete numpty on the boat by the JB regatta!
Not much more Deano and crew could have done in the last race. Overused term, but ETNZ must be “gutted” after that. Super effort that came so close. Can NZ get off the mat and have another go? Or will the NZ team be absorbed into other teams? I agree with TNZ re crew nationality. Seems strange for a USA boat to have one national on board.
Will be interesting to see what shape the next A-Cup will take.

Sounds like we have a good fun weekend lined up. Let’s hope the weather is friendly.
Geoff C – Re taking the mast down, and putting up for that matter. The first time I put the mast up I had a bit of a challenge until the penny dropped. Chris Kitchen recommends in one of his articles, setting the chainplate on the third hole to obtain the correct rake. If you try to take the mast out, or put it in, holding it vertical the shrouds will work against you. So make sure you hold the mast “with the rake” and it gets easier. Not than I’m any sort of expert!
The first sail in any sort of wind is a learning curve experience! All part of the fun of a new boat. I have gone a similar route, bigger boats down to the Weta. Although not a huge jump from my last boat, a Flying Fifteen, it is a totally new experience. The acceleration is great.

Yellow Hull, White Sails, Blue GennakerBy the way, it is common for forums to operate this way regarding photos and videos. While you can place a link or display an image in the forum, the photo or video needs to be stored somewhere else on the web. So the forum provider does not bear the cost of “serving” the image. Of course, Weta could provide the facility of storing images if they thought the cost was affordable. And place limitations on size of image acceptable. NZers are know for their generosity, so who knows what might happen!
I’m sure their IT staff could provide more detail.
Another drifter today in Canberra. Plenty of interest in the Weta. If we can get a couple of Sundays with good sailing weather it should heighten interest further (presuming I don’t make a meal of it!). Prior to the start of the race there was a 2-3 knot breeze, so I went out early and I know a lot of punters commented on the boat. When I went out I felt like the whole club was watching!
I sail most of the club’s events so hopefully activity will encourage others to have a punt.
Time will tell.
