Map of the West Basin of Lake Burley Griffen
The Red Circle is the approximate location of the ACT YMCA SC – the hosts of the event. The Blue Circle is the Canberra Yacht Club. The local boats will be launching from this area. Feel free to join us there.
The Black Circle is Black Mountain. The prevailing wind is from the north-west. So from CYC almost directly from Black Mountain. The wind generally curves to a more westerly direction by the time it reaches the eastern end/CYC.

Glenn is getting the details on Jervis Bay, so stay tuned on that one! I believe that two Wetas from Canberra are planning to make the JB regatta.
In Canberra Spring is the best season for wind, sometimes too much! Make sure you bring your cold weather sailing gear. With a little luck we should get some good sailing in and the venue is very attractive. The Weta can sail under Commonwealth Bridge and get access to Central Basin – the National Library, High Court and the National Gallery are located on the south bank. Cruisers can also sail to the Governor-General’s for a look. So if you want to race and cruise you can look forward to plenty of sailing!
Nice water in Gosford. Be nice to get a Weta event happening up there. Looks a bit thin re launching and retrieving though.

Wetaz #904Generally, Spring is the best sailing in Canberra, hence why most of the local Championships are conducted early in the sailing season.
With the local fleet now standing at 4 boats we are looking forward to some good racing in the 14/15 season. So if you want to have a punt at being the inaugural ACT Weta Champ, better get yourself here to experience the joys of sailing at Lake Burley-Griffin!
With a little good fortune with the weather, this should be a great event!

Been having some nice breeze this month. So hope it will continue over the next couple of weeks. The Canberra Yacht Club has a very attractive outlook and is a nice sailing venue. So, if the wind co-operates, I am sure you will enjoy your weekend in the nation’s capital!
Easy parking and traffic conditions, nice setup and launch area, crime low zone. Modern club facilities re dining, beverages, etc. National Library, National Art Gallery, War Memorial, Parliament House, National Museum plus other interesting sites in close proximity to the sailing club. So non-sailors can also have an interesting day out if they choose.
Lot more water out there than most would appreciate. Cruisers could loiter down to the Governor-Generals house.
Plenty to see and do in an interesting location.

Wetaz #904I would think he would be pretty safe with the smaller main. If you want to be really cautious, just tell him not to cleat the main, so if he ever feels over-powered he can ease the sheet quickly. The only way you could tip it over is if the main is cleated and a really big gust hits, with no commensurate sheet ease.
